An acknowledgment that expires when the fee changes
- A customer who acknowledges one fee and then changes something that changes the fee is asked again. Switching the shipping address from California to Oregon changes both the amount and the statutory name; adding a second mattress doubles the amount.
- The acknowledgment now records what it was for — the state, the label and the amount the customer actually saw — and clears itself the moment any of the three differ. What gets acknowledged is the fee being charged, not one seen earlier in the session.
- A cart carrying an acknowledgment from before this change has nothing recorded against it, so it expires on sight rather than being assumed to cover the current fee.
- This covers standard checkout. Express wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay render no checkout extension at all, so there is nothing there to ask again — an unacknowledged cart is blocked on those surfaces and the customer is sent to standard checkout.
